FEBRUARY 4, 2017 - Deputation, TDSB Planning & Priorities Meeting
Tracie Napoli (Friends of Silver Creek School), Ewa Desznyski (Executive Director - The Etobicoke Children’s Centre) and Yvan Baker, MPP, Etobicoke Centre provided deputations to request that Trustees take action on February 8, 2017 meeting to ensure that both The Etobicoke Children’s Centre and Silver Creek Pre-School remain on-site at Silver Creek School.
DECEMBER 14, 2016 - Letter From Yvan Baker, MPP for Etobicoke Centre
Friends of Silver Creek School and the community at large received a letter from Yvan Baker, MPP for Etobicoke Centre that is in follow up to the September 15, 2016 announcement that the province was looking into a "whole site solution" for Silver Creek School, the green space and to have the Silver Creek Pre-School and The Etobicoke Children's Centre remain on-site.

OCTOBER 31, 2016 - Mtg. Legislative Assembly of Ontario
Friends of Silver Creek School Co-Chairs met with MPP Yvan Baker, Etobicoke Centre and Colleen Hogan, Chief of Staff - Minister of Education.
The purpose of the meeting was continue the dialogue surrounding the province investigating into a "whole site solution" for Silver Creek School, the green space and the programs currently running onsite in follow up to the September 15, 2016 Community Meeting held at Silver Creek School.

OCTOBER 12, 2016 - Follow up letter to Mayor Tory
Friends of Silver Creek School sent a follow up letter to Mayor John Tory containing three requests:

That city planners involve citizens from the onset of community analysis and that the errors in the Silver Creek Profile in the Schools as Community Assets document be corrected;
-
That the 2006 map Measure of hectares of local parkland per 1000 people be updated. A report compiled in 2006 depicting the ratio of population to parkland is an inadequate planning tool in 2016 and beyond;
-
That the city commit to purchasing TDSB land with the goal of balancing a growing population with adequate parkland;
OUTCOME: Awaiting response from Mayor Tory.

SEPEMBER 15, 2016 - Community Meeting
Friends of Silver Creek School hosted a Community Meeting at Silver Creek School providing attendees
the opportunity to tour Silver Creek Pre-School and The Etobicoke Children's Centre programmes which
operate on-site.
Elected representatives in attendance: MP Borys Wrzesnewskyj, MPP Yvan Baker,
Councillor John Campbell, Trustee Chris Glover and Collen Hogan, Chief of Staff - Minister of Education.
OUTCOME: Yvan Baker, MPP announced that the province is exploring a
"whole site solution that does not involve severing the green space."
This is very encouraging however, until there is a CONFIRMED
resolution Friends of Silver Creek School and the community will need
to continue in their advocacy efforts

Friends of Silver Creek School send letter requesting action from Mayor John Tory to preserve the 6 acres of TDSB owned green space adjacent to Silver Creek School.

JUNE 22, 2016 TDSB Meeting
TDSB Meeting Update: TDSB Board Motion and Vote: The board passed the motion regarding Silver Creek and McNicoll tonight on the consent agenda – this means that the motion passed by the committee last week went through without debate.
THE MOTION READS (amended version):
Item 17.2 (c) That McNicoll,155 McNicoll Avenue and Silver Creek, 65 Hartsdale Drive be declared surplus to the needs of the Board, but not be transferred to the Toronto Lands Corporation for disposition at this time;
(d) That the Director continue discussions with the Province on the transfer of ownership of the McNicoll and Silver Creek properties, the goal of the discussion being to keep current community services operating in these sites, and present a report in the fall cycle of meetings before taking any further action with respect to the future disposition of these sites;
OUTCOME: This motion allows the province to move forward in negotiating with the TDSB and exploring options that best serve the needs of students and families attending The ECC and Silver Creek Preschool. Discussions are already under way and both groups are keen to realize meaningful progress throughout the coming summer months.

JUNE 15, 2016 TDSB Meeting
Planning and Priorities Committee Motion: That McNicoll and Silver Creek be declared surplus to the needs of the TDSB but not transferred to the Toronto Lands Corporation (TLC) for Disposition at this time. Instead, staff are directed to continue discussions with the province on the transfer of ownership of the property with the following goals:

that the current community services operating in these schools be preserved on these sites

that staff report back to the board before taking any further action with respect to the future disposition of these sites.
OUTCOME: This motion will be forwarded from the committee to the TDSB board meeting June 22, 2016 when all of the current 19 Trustees will vote on them.

MAY 26, 2016 Public Consultation Meeting Regarding Potential Sale of Silver Creek School

On May 26, 2016 a Public Consultation Meeting Regarding the Potential Sale of Silver Creek School was held at Richview CI.

Over 500 community members, educators, parents and children showed up to make their voices heard!
-
Children from all over Toronto attend both the Silver Creek Pre-School and The Etobicoke Children`s Centre. Concerned parents voiced their frustration, concern and outrage that the TDSB would not only put Silver Creek School on a sale list but that the school is listed in the top five to be sold.
Parents repeatedly asked the question to the TDSB and the politicians"Where will my child go?"
