"Whole-site solution" to Silver Creek School property expected soon: MPP Yvan Baker

While the TDSB is currently engaged in discussions with the province towards the purchase of the school building itself in order to protect and maintain those “vital” services within, there has been no official word on the potential fate of the large swath of land attached to the school – a red flag for many in the community who worry the prime piece of park-adjacent land will be sold off for development.

Friends of Silver Creek School agree with Mayor John Tory. “The people of Toronto love their parks,” Tory said. “The parks give us breathing room in our lives. They’re places to meet friends, to play with our kids, to have events, to sit back and simply enjoy the out of doors.”... “We’ve allowed a lot of development to take place without taking a step like this, and it’s time to move forward,” Tory said. Richmond Gardens already has a great park let's make sure no sale or development takes places to destroy any of the green space and help perserve the TDSB owned parkland at Silver Creek.
Ontario Keeping Children's Centres Safe and Accessible

Minister of Children and Youth Services, Michael Coteau announced today that Ontario is investing $16 million in more than 550 facility upgrades and repair projects at more than 140 community agencies across the province to help them better serve Ontario's children, youth and families.
Friends of Silver Creek School applauds this action by Minister Coteau and are looking to have the help needed to make sure that Silver Creek School remains intact with the support of the province to continue to serve the neighbourhoods needs and operate programs for children with mental health issues and physical disabilities.

Friends of Silver Creek School want to congratulate the Friends of Silver Creek Park who worked to bring a new playground to Silver Creek Park! We are looking forward to celebrating with family, friends and neighbours at the official opening Sunday, August 7, 2016, 11:30am - 2:00pm as we continue to advocate for the preservation of all the parkland at Silver Creek and the protection and preservation of the TDSB owned green space.

Pressure must still be applied to Councillor John Campbell, Ward 4, Etobicoke Centre MPP Yvan Baker and Etobicoke Trustee Chris Glover demanding that action be taken to protect the community against the sale and development of Silver Creek School in Etobicoke. Plan B is currently in play when it comes to the ultimate fate of Silver Creek and its adjacent green space as talks between the TDSB and the province towards the purchase of the Silver Creek Public School property at 65 Hartsdale Dr. are still ongoing.
